Engine cooling & exhaust system

An inadequate marine cooling system leads to boiling and overheating of the ship's engine. For good performance, a marine engine should be at the correct operating temperature. Compared to boat propulsions cooled by a coolant, air-cooled boat engines have become quite rare. A dual-circuit cooling system is common on many yachts and motorboats. After passing through the impeller cooling water pump, the raw water passes through a marine heat exchanger for cooling the enclosed circuit of the boat engine. The enclosed cooling system is filled with engine coolant. With a wet exhaust, the raw water is passing through a marine heat exchanger. It is often combined with an exhaust manifold for cooling down the exhaust gases. Behind it, the raw water is released into an exhaust elbow to the exhaust pipe and provides additional cooling of the exhaust gases. Put simply, mixed exhaust gas and seawater passes through the exhaust system, which consists of water lift muffler, exhaust silencer and connecting, temperature-resistant exhaust hoses. Finally, exhaust gas and raw water are discharged via a through-hull fitting or a marine exhaust thru-hull.
