Battery protection relay: to disconnect the starter battery from the consumer battery when a given voltage is reached (undervoltage protection) or to disconnect the consumer battery from the consumers (deep discharge protection).

Battery connection relay: connects several battery banks when a given voltage is reached and disconnects them again when the voltage falls below this. This is only possible in one direction or in both directions in the case of several energy sources (alternator, solar, wind generator).
