HEMPEL CONVERSION Primer is a two-component epoxy resin-based adhesion primer. It was developed to facilitate the change from conventional antifoulings to the biocide-free thin-film antifouling HEMPASPEED TF from HEMPEL. The primer can be applied to existing antifoulings (including International VC-17m) as well as to one- and two-component primers, provided the surface is intact and stable. Attention: The primer does NOT provide corrosion protection, but merely acts as an adhesion promoter.

Coverage: approx. 15 m²/liter

Substrate pre-treatment: New build: Prime uncoated surfaces with a corrosion protection primer beforehand. Two-component primers based on epoxy resin (e.g. HEMPEL Light Primer) are recommended.

Existing antifouling (if load-bearing and intact): Sand the surface with wet sandpaper and water. Rinse the substrate. Clean and dry the surface.

Application: Apply a full coat of HEMPEL Conversion Primer. Due to its low viscosity, the Conversion Primer is very thin, so any runners should be smoothed out as quickly as possible. The final coat (e.g. HEMPEL HEMPASPEED TF) can then be applied. Please refer to the technical data sheet for precise information on drying times and recoating intervals.

HEMPEL HEMPASPEED TF Thin-Film Bottom Coating
HEMPASPEED TF is a biocide-free antifouling. It forms such a smooth surface that fouling is minimized and friction is reduced. The new hydrogel technology in the HEMPASPEED TF is a combination of thin layer and hard antifouling. That means it is as robust as a hard antifouling, but with an ultra-smooth surface. It protects against fouling and is easy to clean without chemicals. Suitable for fresh, salt and brackish water as well as for inland areas. Particularly recommended in areas where biocides may not be used or only to a limited extent (also in the Netherlands). Suitable for all sports boats with GRP, steel or aluminum hulls, also for regatta and trailer boats. Application on existing antifouling layerIt is possible to switch from a conventional antifouling to HEMPASPEED TF. The old coating (if it is still intact) does not have to be removed. A layer of HEMPEL CONVERSION Primer is then required as an intermediate layer. Two coats of HEMPASPEED TF should be applied over the primer. Application as a new coating When recoating, the substrate must first be sealed with HEMPEL LIGHT Primer before applying HEMPEL CONVERSION Primer and two coats of HEMPASPEED TF. Note the instructions on the product data sheet. A maximum of 3 months should elapse between application and putting the product in the water, ideally 30 hours at around 15°Application with brush or roller Dilute with Thinner 808 (No 3) (Art. No. 2577-020) Available in four shades: True Blue (blue), Ultimate White (white), Black (black) and Penta Gray (grey). Yield: approx. 11 m²/l.

EPIFANES CR Antifouling Primer is a universal underwater ship primer based on chlorinated rubber. Suitable for use on steel, aluminum, wood and polyester. It dries quickly and can be applied to many pre-treated substrates and old coatings. The chlorinated rubber contained in the primer makes it permanently elastic, allowing it to bridge the natural movement of wood, for example.Coverage: approx. 9 m²/l.Surface conditions: Fouling on old coatings must be removed. The substrate must be clean, degreased, dry, well sanded and free of dust. Wash off salt or other water-soluble contaminants with fresh water. Remove grease and oil with ammonia solution or Epifanes spray thinner for one-component-paints. Remove rust and loose coatings. Soften old tar coatings with an aggressive thinner and/or sand coarsely with P60-80.Application: Steel must be dry and completely free of rust, grease, oil, salt and dirt. Degrease with Epifanes cleaning thinner and clean cloths. Rough sand with P60. Old tar and bitumen layers should be at least seven days old and free of growth. Clean the surface and allow to dry before painting. For a preservative effect on wood, at least five coats should be applied when recoating. LEFANT Epoxy Primer is specially designed for underwater use and can be applied to gelcoat, plastic, steel, aluminum, sterndrives and propellers.The two-component epoxy resin-based primer is suitable for pretreatment of antifoulings such as LEFANT T-Coat, it is oil and chemical resistant and protects against moisture penetration, preventing osmosis. Thanks to the long recoat intervals, it can be easily applied and cures even at low temperatures (min. 5 °C). Available in white or black.For detailed application instructions, please refer to the product data sheet. Application on painted substrates: Old one-component coatings and primers should be removed, two-component primers in good condition can be coarsely sanded (grit 60-80). Then clean thoroughly. If necessary, level uneven areas with epoxy filler.When recoating steel hulls, the surface should be sandblasted or coarsely sanded and painted with a diluted coat of epoxy primer (20-30% diluted with Lefant Multi thinner) immediately after sanding. Then apply up to three more coats and subsequently level out any unevenness and defects with putty.
